Training FAQs
Fully online, rigorous, certificate program, which uses a self-paced learning model to provide users with information about ambiguous loss:
- How to ease the stress of ambiguous loss with guidelines for therapy, psychoeducation or family/community interventions
- Open to professionals, nationally and internationally, who are from various professions and disciplines, e.g., family therapy, social work, psychology, school counseling and guidance, grief counseling, humanitarian field work, pastoral counseling, foster care work, behavioral/mental health care, medical health care, education, and more
- This certificate helps persons build upon their former training to understand and respond more effectively to the many unclear and confusing losses that occur from catastrophes as well as in everyday lifeāand the ongoing grief that is often misdiagnosed as personal pathology when it is not.
- Goal for Treatment and Intervention
- The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota awards a non-credit professional development Certificate in Ambiguous Loss: Its Meaning and Application to individuals who successfully complete the certificate program as described above
Open to professionals, nationally and internationally, who are from various professions and disciplines, E.G. family therapy, social work, psychology, school counseling and guidance, grief counseling, humanitarian field work, pastoral counseling, foster care work, behavioural/mental health care, medical health care, education and more.
This certificate helps persons build upon their former training to understand and respond more effectively to the many unclear and confusing losses that occur from catastrophes as well as in everyday life - and the ongoing grief that is often misdiagnosed as personal pathology when it is not.
A total of five major learning modalities via a teaching video by Dr. Boss, plus course readings. There will be quizzes within each module. Participants must pass each module with a score of at least 80% before moving ahead to the next module. The course content is asynchronous, meaning learners can engage in course content whenever it is convenient to them.

This certificate may be used to document your continuing education credits or for enrichment and enhancement of your professional training record.
The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota awards a non-credit professional development Certificate in Understanding and Applying Ambiguous Loss to individuals who successfully complete the certificate program as described above.

The cost to complete the certificate program is a one-time payment of $500. You may try just one module for $100 with an option to complete the rest of the training by paying the difference in cost.
